Join us in celebrating four and a half decades of unity, strength, and progress! Still Standing: Black Caucus 45th Anniversary Celebration honors the incredible journey of the Black Caucus over the past 45 years at Virginia Tech. We’ll have a night of laughs, memories, and inspiration. Don’t miss out on our celebration!
In 1981, the Black Caucus formed as an advocacy organization to fight for effective implementation of the university’s recent Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action programs and to look out for the Black faculty, staff, and students. It’s a mission our founders took very seriously.
Over the years, the Caucus has lead major policy changes, governance structure changes, student collaborations, and campus initiatives. We’ve won important battles, and we’ve also taken plenty of hits. We never give up. We are still standing.
The Black faculty and staff who are here today wouldn’t have made it through the door if not for the seriousness, the steadfastness, the commitment, the vision, and the fight from our Black Caucus. For 45 years, we have stood by our community. We have stood for us.
Please join us in recognition of our history on February 27-28, 2026. On February 27, we’ll host a community celebration with dinner and dancing. On February 28, we’ll have a day-long symposium to reflect on our time and place at VT. We look forward to you being part of our continued history.
